Abstract The active Atlantic coastal fringe from Safi, to the North, until Souira Qdima, to the South, constitutes a province where concentrates of important socioeconomic activities dealing with the development of urban and industrial agglomerations (urbanism, agriculture, fishing, industry, etc…). These activities are essentially implanted along the coast. The study of sediments quality and heavy metals behaviors in the studied zone shows that contents of these elements overpass in the majority their relative limits of contamination. The organic matter and the nature of sediments regarding their granulometry (especially fine fraction) play a very important role in heavy metals concentration and complexation. The study of heavy metals speciation (while using the sequential attack protocol of Tessier and al. (1977)) between chemical fractions composing sediment shows that the big part of metals is carried by silicateous fraction with exception of Cd and furthermore supports of contamination for metals are: 1) the exchangeable fraction for Cd, Ni, Pb, Co et Cu, 2) carbonaceous fraction for Zn and Cd, 3) oxides and hydroxides fraction of Fe and Mn for Pb and Zn, 4) organic matter and sulfides fraction more concentrating Cu, Cr, Cd, Co, Ni and Co. Key words: Morocco, Atlantic coastline, Safi - Souira Qdima, geochemistry, speciation.
